The Mentoring Process
Many
organizations fully realize that their success is directly linked to an organizational
culture that values personal growth, supports such growth by proactive staff development
and rewards those in the organization who meet personal and organizational growth
objectives. However, it is abundantly clear that, in any organization, personal
development cannot simply be imposed from above; the individual has to be sufficiently
self-motivated to want to improve and must be willing to be open to input, suggestions,
feedback and skill development in order to move forward. Mentoring can provide
valuable support for individuals engaged in both formal and informal staff development
activities, whether they are mentors or protégés.
